Description of Services
Comments on Remanufacturing Services
Performance Oriented offers four levels of service, three of which involve remanufacturing of the carburetor body plus a basic rebuild option. Additional options to these four service levels provide individualization of the finished project tailored to a customer's specifications. The remanufacturing processes include these basic tasks:
- Machining and installation of new, oil impregnated bearings for the throttle shafts
- Replacement of the throttle shafts (as required)
- Resizing of the main throttle bores by machining
- Installation of throttle butterfly valves matched to the resized bores.
Review of the four service levels offered below will guide the customer in understanding what is achieved by each and guide their selections:
- Rebuild - This option returns your carburetors cleaned; completely rebuilt with new gaskets including new fuel check valves; tuned and ready for installation on your car. Final tuning on the customer's car is required.
- Level One - Offered to those wishing to minimize their costs by performing as much of their own disassembly and rebuilding effort as possible to achieve tunable carburetors. Only the remanufacturing machine work and throttle shaft installations are performed leaving the customer with the rebuilding and tuning of their carburetors.
- Level Two - The Level Two service option continues where the Level One effort stops. It is essentially the addition of the Rebuild option to the Level One remanufacturing option. The result of this combination returns the carburetors remanufactured, rebuilt, tuned and ready for installation on your car.
- Level Three - The Level Three service option takes the Level Two service option to the next level, resulting in completely restored carburetors both mechanically and cosmetically. All components are removed, inspected and replaced or restored.
Note: The process to restore the straw yellow finish on Weber carburetors has not been replicated by Performance Oriented as of now but we're working on it! Customers will be required to specify the finish desired prior to completion of this task. - Options - The above services may be optioned as desired to return the carburetors per your specifications.
In addition to the services listed above, Parts, Tools and Accessories are offered for the convenience of Performance Oriented customers. These include Weber replacement parts and jets, tuning aids and other related items.

Rebuild - Rebuilding your Webers
Notes:
- The Rebuild level of service is primarily a mechanical effort resulting in totally rebuilt and tuned carburetors not requiring a remanufacturing process.
- This level of service disassembles, cleans, reassembles and tunes your Webers; returning them ready to run. Customer is responsible for performing final adjustments to tailor the tuning of the carburetors to their particular engine.
- Customer to supply complete carburetors less intake trumpets, cross bar linkage and air cleaners. Remove all fuel from carburetors before shipping by draining and then by actuating throttle shafts to purge the accelerator circuits.
- Use caution in disassembly and pre-cleaning since compressed air will crush the brass fuel level floats if blown into the fuel delivery or float bowl venting ports.
- It is assumed the supplied carburetors are serviceable units removed from a running engine. Units with missing components, seized throttle shafts, broken jet holders or that are corroded and/or dirty will reflect cost adders in the cost estimate in order to return them to service.
- Please see Price Spread Sheet for comparative pricing on all Services offered.
The Rebuild level of service is comprised of the following tasks:
- Complete disassembly of the carburetors
- Verification of jet sizes to size identifications
- Check floats for leaks, geometry, and for indentations on the tabs for the float needle valves
- Check all air/fuel passage ways for freedom from blockages
- Inspect disassembled components and provide customer with written cost and schedule estimate
- Customer provides Authorization to Proceed based upon cost/schedule estimate
- Ultrasonically clean all parts and check for clear air/fuel paths
- Reassemble with new parts:
- Tab lock washer and hex nut on end of throttle shafts
- Replace 8mm ball studs on throttle levers with new, OEM type with riveted stud
- Self locking nuts (qty 10/carburetor) for assembly of the carburetor halves
- Self locking nuts (qty 6/carburetor) for assembly installation of the air intake trumpets
- Stainless steel cheese head screws (qty 4/carburetor) used on top housing
- All gaskets, sealing washers and float needle valves used in the rebuild kit (see Weber for list of components included in rebuild kit)
- Reuse existing parts:
- Install completed carburetors on test engine and perform real-time adjustment of float levels, idle air and idle mixture screws
- Package for shipment and return to customer
Total cost for the baseline Rebuild service is $525 for one pair of carburetors plus shipping.

Parts, Tools and Accessories
Performance Oriented also provides Weber parts and tuning aids for your convenience. Tuning aids preferred by us are:
- Color Tune - A simple tool that allows visual confirmation of idle mixture adjustment thereby eliminating the somewhat subjective methods otherwise used
- Mercury sticks - We have a couple of tool suggestions that allow balancing air flow WITHOUT removal of air filters and allow SIMULTANEOUS balancing of four cylinders. This method of tuning requires vacuum taps to be installed into the intake manifolds or the insertion of adapters between the Webers and the intake manifolds. (inquire)
